Latest Information on The North Dakota Tax Cut

Americans for Prosperity is the ONLY organization in North Dakota actively advocating for lower taxes!

Fact: North Dakotans have less disposable income after taxes than all but 15 states, most of which are in the deep south or the industrial Midwest where production jobs have been lost.

Fact: 97.5% of North Dakotans make less than $150,000 annually and 62% of state income taxes are paid by those making less than $150,000.

Fact: The growth of state government spending has outpaced the increase of the average North Dakotan’s wages for nearly a decade, and has outpaced the rate of inflation 26 of the last 30 years.

Fact: The 2007 legislature increased state government spending by 24% and failed to provide comprehensive tax relief to all North Dakotans who contributed to the $680 million surplus.

Fact: The 2009 legislature will have no less than $800 million in surplus and reserves beyond the 24% spending increases implemented last year.

For A Tax Cut!

It has been six months since Ed Schafer signed our petition to cut state income taxes.

There has been an outpouring of support for this effort, and rightfully so. We have an opportunity to change a tax policy that has done little to retain North Dakotans, both young and old.

Not only does everyone deserve to keep more of their own money, but with nearly a Billion Dollar surplus of taxpayer money sitting here in Bismarck the urge for elected leaders to spend is proving to be overwhelming.

You may have heard about new government spending programs, and new requests from the multitude of special interest lobbyists, in the past few months. We can not let them win, and squander this opportunity for taxpayers to not only have a better standard of living but also allow government to grow and be even more intrusive in our lives.
