Just wrapped up a terrific Hot Air Tour event in Gonzales, La., right outside of Baton Rouge. Kids were enjoying rides as I left for the airport, after everyone listened to Senator Vitter speak about how outrageous the costs of cap-and-trade will be for Louisiana families, and how important it is to access American energy resources. Sen. Vitter signed the AFP NoClimateTax.com pledge on the spot when I handed it to him--making his commitment in writing to oppose any global warming bill that hides a tax hike.

-Signs No Climate Tax Pledge-

WASHINGTON-The free-market grassroots group Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today applauded U.S. Representative Steve Scalise (LA-1) for signing the group’s “No Climate Tax Pledge.” By doing so, Scalise joins over 135 lawmakers on the federal, state and local levels pledging to “oppose legislation relating to climate change that includes a net increase in government revenue.” Scalise also joins fellow Louisiana signers U.S. Rep. John Fleming (LA-4) and State Senator A.G. Crowe.

This morning's lead Wall Street Journal editorial channels yesterday's blog post by AFP's very own Phil Kerpen. From the WSJ editorial:

Mark it down as the first tax increase of the new Democratic era. The Journal reported yesterday that President-elect Obama and Congressional leaders intend to maintain the estate tax rather than let it expire on schedule in 2010.
