JPF Timonium: AFP Members at Baltimore's Join Patients First Event

AFP-Montgomery members are upset about the government take over of health care passed in the House.

Instead of a regular meeting, AFP members are sponsoring a town hall meeting with Johns Hopkins professor Dr. Michael Gloth and Glenn Beck Show regular, Phil Kerpen. The event starts 7pm at Julius West Middle School in Rockville Maryland.

The Baltimore County chapter of AFP-Maryland is encouraging citizens to attend Monday's Baltimore County Council meeting to advocate for pension reform. Councilman Vince Gardina (D-5) will be retiring next year and will walk away with a 100% annual pension. If actuaries are correct, that could mean a $1.25 million "golden parachute" for the part time, 5-term councilman.

Health Care House Call

Despite our House Call on Thursday (above), late Saturday evening the House of Representatives passed a massive government overhaul of our health care system. A slim 5 vote margin was enough to push the $1 trillion package. Maryland's Congressional delegation provided 6 of the 220 votes, as only Reps. Kratovil (MD-01) and Bartlett (MD-06) voted 'NO'. Appearing on CBS' Face The Nation, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) reiterated his opposition to any health care reform that has the government mandated "public option." He also went as far to say that doing nothing would be better than another government run insurance giveaway. Lieberman's statements are a blow to Senate liberals pushing this bill forward.

In a recent U.S. Senate committee vote, legislators have voted down an amendment to allow the public to see the entire bill, and its cost, 72 hours prior to a vote. AFP-Maryland is demanding transparency from Congress as the Senate considers the details of legislative proposals that would fundamentally transform the American health care system.
