WASHINGTON—The free-market grassroots nonprofit Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today released the following statement in response to the introduction of Senators Boxer and Kerry’s energy bill. AFP President Tim Phillips:
Senators Boxer and Kerry have found a way to craft a climate tax bill that is even worse than the Waxman-Markey energy tax passed by the House. With more severe emission restrictions and even more government spending, the impact of this bill will be even more devastating.

AFP just released a study detailing the special interest influence used to grease H.R. 2454’s passage through the U.S. House. The policy paper examines how campaign contributions, pork-barrel projects and free carbon emission allowances were all used to buy the votes of hesitant representatives. The paper also looks at how Wall Street trading houses, electricity producers and the Left’s political allies all stand to benefit from the Waxman-Markey energy tax bill.
Prominent sections include:
* Free Allowances: The Biggest Corporate Welfare Program in History,
* Wall Street Getting Rich Trading Emission Permits
* Eco-Protectionism: Are Carbon Tariffs Smoot-Hawley II?
* Carbon Offset Credits and the Forestry Industry

We're thrilled at the news today from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that there won't be a vote this year on the outrageously misnamed ‘Employee Free Choice Act'. This bill would take the secret ballot away from workers in union organizing elections, and I personally saw how offensive that notion is to thousands of hard-working Americans at Save My Ballot Tour events we held throughout the Spring. Americans made clear that they won't give in to union intimidation and coercion without a fight, and at least for now, they won.
