Mid-Year results recently released by the Hamilton County Commissioner’s office show that despite the doom and gloom scenario threatened by proponents of last year’s sales tax increase, incarceration levels in Hamilton County continue to hold steady. During last year’s campaign to raise taxes, proponents claimed that the failure of the tax increase would lead to massive amounts of early release for prisoners. Their scenario showed space constraints would force the county to early release prisoners at an increased rate.

Those dire predictions have not happened. As seen on a Commissioner’s Priorities Mid-Year Results document here, there were no early releases of male adult prisoners in 2007 and 2008 and a decrease in the amount of female early releases. This is even more interesting when including that Hamilton County is no longer renting 400 beds from Butler County. So much for a grim space situation in the county jail!
AFP – Ohio is proud have been part of the fight to oppose the sales tax increase last November and once again congratulates all the members of the We Demand a Better Plan coalition for saving all taxpayers from such an erroneous and unnecessary tax increase.
