A couple of days ago, the Havelock (N.C.) News ran an interesting article that detailed a recent trip to Washington by three local officials looking for $48.2 million in taxpayer-funded pork.  Seems they've even spent $38,000 local taxpayer dollars to hire fancy high-priced Washington lobbyists to help them get support from U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Dole and Richard Burr and U.S. Rep.

GUBERNATORIAL PLEDGE

Whereas, I believe in fiscal discipline and that government should not pose an unnecessary burden on taxpayers;

Whereas, I believe that government should not grow faster than the state;

In this morning's Raleigh News and Observer, U.S. Rep. David Price (4th Dist - NC) defends pork-barrel earmarks and suggests that taxpayers who don't like them should "take a deep breath."AFP's North Carolina State Director, Dallas Woodhouse, responded quickly:
