Sen. DeMint Might "Close Down Senate Floor" Until They Vote on Offshore Drilling

More than 6,500 people from across America participated in our national Tele Town Hall meeting with U.S. Sen. DeMint last night.  During the call, which focused mainly on energy issues like proposed global warming taxes and how to get gas prices under control, Sen. DeMint made some news when he said he's been meeting with other Senators about the possibility of blocking all Senate action until they get a vote on increasing domestic oil production.  From Business and Media Institute

“One of the things that we’re looking at here – a few of us have been meeting about ways that we might just close down the Senate floor until we get a vote on offshore exploration, as well as developing the supplies of oil and natural gas that we have, you know, around the country,” DeMint said. “We’re trying to come up with some way that we can just – we can get the attention and create a sense of urgency that was just expressed because that is very true,” he explained during the call organized by Americans for Prosperity.

There's audio of Sen. DeMint's comments at the link above.  Audio of the full conference call will be posted here soon, hopefully.

Sen. DeMint's comments come on the heels of Speaker Pelosi's shocking admission that increasing the supply of oil would reduce prices, as well as remarks by Sens. Harry Reid and Dick Durbin that they may support increased domestic oil production.

The political potency of this issue has exploded in recent weeks, but the battle is far from over.  Contact your elected officials here and tell them to oppose taxes and regulations that would further drive up the cost of energy and to support increasing domestic energy supplies, which will help get costs under control.
