At a press conference on the steps of Wilmington City Hall, grassroots members of Americans for Prosperity asked Wilmington City Council members to delay plans to arbitrarily annex Monkey Junction and other New Hanover County areas for a minimum of one year, or until the General Assembly acts on the issue of annexation reform.

AFP is asking the city council to stop all movement and planning towards forced annexation. The North Carolina House Select Committee on Municipal Annexation will make their recommendations to the General Assembly some time this spring. The delay will allow the Legislature to act on the proposals in the Summer Session of 2008 or the Long Session that begins early in 2009. The group held its press conference on Friday March 28th.
