Dear Honorable Members of the NC House and Senate:

Americans for Prosperity of North Carolina, a non-partisan grassroots organization of citizen leaders, is proud to present the Taxpayer Protection Pledge for the 2005 Legislative Session.

The Taxpayer Protection Pledge is the best way for you to publicly demonstrate your personal commitment to holding the line on taxes in North Carolina. After all, we already pay the highest corporate and personal income taxes in the Southeast -- 9th highest in the nation; we pay the 12th highest sales tax nationally; the 11th highest gas tax; and Governor Easley's recently proposed budget includes more than $1.7 billion in tax increases, including tax increases on cigarettes, liquor, newspapers, cable, satellite and phone service, candy, live entertainment and the continuation of the so called “temporary taxes.”

We request that you sign the pledge and have it dated, witnessed and mailed or faxed to Americans for Prosperity of North Carolina no later than 5:00 P.M. on Friday, April 1, 2005. Our fax and mailing address is located on the pledge form (see attached).

The results of the pledge signers and non-pledge signers will be released to the media, posted on the internet at www.afpnc.org, published in every major newspaper in the state, announced on radio and TV, and distributed in mailings to districts statewide.

Thank you for all you do for our state and all that you pledge to do by signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge of 2005.
