Taxpayers Revolt Against Governor Schwarzenegger's Proposal to Raise Taxes

(Sacramento) - As Governor Schwarzenegger proposes massive Tax increases and the Legislature convenes their Special Budget Session, Americans for Prosperity, California arrives at the State Capitol to re-engage their statewide Media tour and Petition drive. The coalition of taxpayers is calling on legislators to end pork-barrel spending and to stop treating taxpayers like an A.T.M. machine every time they can’t get their spending under control.

"Six months ago this week, we stood on these very steps of the Capitol to send a message that Californians were Already Taxed to the Max," said Peter Foy, Statewide Chairman of Americans for Prosperity, California. "Unfortunately, Governor Schwarzenegger has become the 'Tax-enator.' Governor, the People have spoken. California's economy and California's Taxpayers cannot sustain a massive Tax increase during these tough economic times."

The coalition kicked off their tour in Sacramento today with their trademark 12-foot inflatable A.T.M. Machine to raise awareness about out-of-control spending in California. They will travel the State both physically and virtually, holding virtual Town Hall meetings to reach more than 250,000 Taxpayers, in 10 different cities, regarding the ramifications of Tax increases during this economic downturn.

The group is joined by Jon Coupal of Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association; Lew Uhler of the National Tax Limitation Committee; Senator George Runner, Republican Caucus Chair; Senator Jeff Denham; members of the Legislature and other concerned Taxpayers.

Americans for Prosperity, California is credited with helping hold the line on new Taxes in this year's budget compromise between Republicans and Democrats.
