Tom Delay Finds Some Fat to Trim?

Less than two weeks after proudly declaring that there's "no fat left to trim" in the federal budget, U.S. House Majority Leader Tom Delay says in an op-ed in this morning's Washington Times that there just may be some wasteful spending after all:

"(Fiscal discipline) begins with the House Republican commitment to breaking the government bureaucracy's logjam of inefficient programs and wasteful spending. This goal will be accomplished by advancing a budget initiative that pulls up from the roots billions of dollars of wasteful spending programs that have taken hold in the federal budget for far too long. We need to drag this woodpile of wasteful spending that is buried in the federal budget out into the light and throw it onto the scrap heap."

Congratulations to Leader Delay for apparently coming around, and even heartier congraulations for the Republican Study Committee for forcing the GOP Congressional leadership to finally engage in the debate. Now contact your Representatives and Senators and urge them to put their money where their mouths are and support offsets to pay for the forthcoming billions of dollars in hurricane relief.
